Managing Pool Water After Heavy Rain

Heavy rain doesn't just dilute a pool, it can also wash in debris and contaminants that change what the water needs beyond a simple rebalance. Kingwood Service Association deed restrictions include tree-preservation requirements that are reviewed before a pool footprint is set, on top of standard village-level approvals.

What Rain Actually Changes

Significant rainfall dilutes alkalinity and chlorine, can lower pH (rain is mildly acidic), and often introduces organic debris and sometimes yard runoff, fertilizer, soil, that adds phosphates and chlorine demand beyond just the dilution effect.

The Right Order to Fix It

Skim and brush first to remove visible debris, then retest alkalinity and pH before chlorine, correcting alkalinity first the same as any other rebalance. A light shock afterward addresses both the diluted sanitizer level and any organic load the rain brought in; if the pool overflowed, excess water may need to be drained back down to normal operating level before any of this matters much.
